Industry warns against rush to university - RNZ Interview
The following interview appeared on RNZ, speaking to the Industry Training Federations Chief Executive, Josh Williams and Careers and Transition Education Association president Warwick Foy. The original article can be found here.
They discussed the Government's upcoming policy of introducing one year's free post-secondary school education free and how it may impact trades training.
This discussion highlights a real existing and ongoing issue - many of our youth do not see trades training/ apprenticeships and seeking employment in manufacturing as a fruitful option for them coming out of high school. Often, University alone is seen as the right path for smart students, and many are not even made aware of other opportunities. The following discussion covers this issue and highlights some areas for improvement.
