The Productivity Puzzle - and what it could mean for you

The global productivity problem has been widely discussed for years now – growth in productivity has been slowing since the 1970’s, being particularly pronounced following the global financial crisis.  Manufacturing in New Zealand is certainly no exception – at an average annual rate of 0.2% (2005 – 2015) it lags well behind some other sectors, largely pulled down by productivity actually falling in food & beverage manufacturing.  Things look a bit more encouraging for the machinery and equipment sub-sector, at 1.3% year-on-year growth between 2010 and 2015, for example.
